30 min bullet train to Japan’s street food capital. Dotonbori, Osaka Castle, and the best food scene in the country.
Shinkansen (~15 min) or JR Special Rapid (~30 min) from Kyoto.
Iconic landmark, beautiful grounds and park. The castle is a museum inside — great views from the top. Budget 1–1.5 hours.
Osaka’s famous neon-lit food street. This is where you eat EVERYTHING: takoyaki (octopus balls), okonomiyaki (savory pancakes), gyoza, kushikatsu (deep-fried skewers). Graze your way through.
Shopping district and “American Village” — streetwear, vintage stores, and youth culture. Key thrift spots: Kinji (huge selection, affordable vintage) and Grizzly (curated Americana/workwear). Also Brand Off Shinsaibashi for luxury resale (Hermès, Chanel, LV). One full day covers all major thrift spots.
Come back at golden hour/sunset when the neon lights turn on and the canal reflections are at their best. Get the iconic Glico Running Man photo.
Osaka does street food better than anywhere. Or sit down for yakiniku (Japanese BBQ) or a proper kushikatsu restaurant.
Back by 9:30–10 PM. Rest up — early checkout tomorrow.
